Nytt år

med en ny hemsida och en ny blogg. Med så mycket nytt kan det vara en idé att titta lite bakåt på året som har gått. 2010 var egentligen mitt första år som journalist, även om jag alltid har skrivit mycket och gärna.

I februari började jag min praktik hos Naturvetarna. Där blev jag ansvarig för vetenskaps-uppslaget och fick bidra med många egna idéer. Jag tog även hand om spalten "hallå där" vilket var både jobbigt och lärorikt. En text som bara går ut på citat kan vara ganska jobbig att få ihop samt att intervjupersonerna brukar ha ganska många åsikter om det de har sagt i efterhand.
Mitt första uppdrag var ett reportage om konstjorda spindeltråd. Att prata forskning med Anna Rising var mycket spännande och entuasmiserande. Jag är säkert på att jag gick ifrån BMC med ett stort leende.
Strax innan inlämning av den första tidningen där jag medverkade kom nyheten av Astra Zenecas nedläggning i Lund. Jag fick då uppdraget att skriva om det och eftersom det var ganska mycket som var oklart blev det en ganska hektisk uppgift. På köpet fick jag lära mig att jobba med en text i ständig förändring samt att lyfta fram hur facket jobbar för att stödja sina medlemmar.

I april började jag jobba med mitt reportage om forskningspolitik. Ifrån början var jag tveksam till idén men min lärare på kursen trodde att mitt eget intresse i ämnet skulle vara en bra drivkraft. Jag valde att fokusera på unga forskare och hur den akademiska karriären ser ut. Arbetet med reportaget var jobbigare än väntat och jag var nära att ge upp ett par gånger. Nu är det något som jag är riktigt stolt över. Resultatet samt en personlig krönika publicerades i studenttidningen Ergo i början av hösten och jag fick ganska mycket respons.

Jag tror fortfarande att det är viktigt med den här typen av publikationer. För att uppmärksamma hur politiken kring forskningen ser ut och för att väcka en debatt. Den behövs verkligen, speciellt om Sverige ska vara ett spjutspetsland inom forskningen.

I slutet på maj, exakt sju år efter min disputation, tog jag magisterexamen i journalistik. Det kändes stort och fint.

I juni gjorde jag en liten praktik på Uppsala Fria Tidning som fortsatte som sommarvikariat. För det mesta var det helt andra uppslag än vetenskap som gällde och tempot var också mycket snabbare. På min första praktikdag kom nyheten att Ship to Gaza som var på väg till Palestina med förnödenheter hade bordats av israeliska styrkor. Jag kastades in i bevakningen av utvecklingen och fick prata med många intressanta människor. Bland andra intervjuade jag Amil Sarsours dotter som var självklart mycket engagerad i händelseförloppet. Hennes far var med på en av skeppen och när jag träffade henne första gången var det fortfarande oklart vad som hade hänt honom. Två dagar senare kunde han återvända hem och jag fick då tillfälle att intervjua honom och göra ett personporträtt. Det var ett intensivt möte med en vänlig man som fick alldeles svarta ögon när han pratade om Israel och upplevelserna av bordningen.

Det blev många olika artiklar på Uppsala Fria, ett urval finns på hemsidan under arbetsprover. Där finns även porträtten om Amil Sarsour som pdf.

Augusti började med en dipp i formkurvan. Jag fick det jag hade fruktat ganska länge och anmäla mig som arbetslös. Eller arbetssökande om man så vill. De första två veckorna blev ganska kaotiska med mycket pappersarbete och jobbsökande. Sedan blev även det en rutin och jag kunde börja frilansa medan jag började skriva en affärsplan för mitt företag. Även september och oktober fortsatte i samma stil, om jag inte frilansade åt någon jobbade jag på affärsplanen eller var på någon typ av starta-eget aktivitet.

Samtidigt började jag gå en kurs i digitala medier på poppius journalistskola.

Det var nog i dem svängarna en kompis började kalla mig för "bissi woman".

November är en tråkig månad, sägs det. Inte i år. Plötsligt hände allt på en gång och mycket snabbare än vad jag hade räknat med. Affärsplanen blev godkänd av Arbetsförmedlingen och jag kunde registrera företaget. Helt plötsligt var det någonting som hände varje dag samtidigt som jag hade rätt så många deadlines att passa. I samma stil fortsatte december, det blev en effektiv och produktiv start av företaget.

I samband med Nobel-föreläsningarna i Uppsala lyckades jag att intervjua en av pristagarna i kemi, Ei-Ishi Negishi. Ett väldigt trevligt möte med en mycket stolt pristagare. När jag funderade över att bli vetenskapsjournalist resonerade jag att om jag nu inte kunde få nobelpriset själv så kunde jag jag åtminstone skriva om det. Och där satt jag, pirrig i magen och med femton minuter på mig för att ställa smarta frågor till en mycket smart man.

Cirkeln är sluten och jag kan se tillbaka på 2010 och säga:
Jag är vetenskapsjournalist.
